Kate Allsop

Kate qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and became an accredited children’s solicitor member of the Children Panel in 2014. Since that time, she has established herself as one of the leading solicitors in the Greater Manchester area in the field of children law. Kate is an exceptional advocate and her skills in this aspect of her practice were recognised in 2012 when she became a Solicitor Advocate, obtaining her Higher Rights (Civil) qualification. Kate’s expertise has also been recently recognised in the Legal 500.
Kate appears frequently before lay magistrates, district and circuit judges and before the High Court bench. She is a highly experienced, effective and well-regarded lawyer with extensive expertise in complex public and private law proceedings and applications involving the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court. Kate has a broad depth of experience in cases involving non-accidental injury, sexual abuse and neglect, including matters with international elements, and is continually developing her knowledge across various aspects and complexities of children law.
She also regularly separately represents young people in care and private law Children Act proceedings, employing her excellent legal knowledge and also demonstrating her ability to engage with, advise and robustly represent the interests of young people involved in highly challenging and complex legal matters.
Notable cases include;
Salford CC v M (Deprivation of Liberty in Scotland) (2019) [2019] EWHC 1510 (Fam) – separate representation of the child, M who was aged 13, and whether she was deprived of her liberty in her current placement in Scotland, and how this was to be lawfully approved.
Re S-B [2015] EWCA Civ 705 - a successful permission hearing in the Court of Appeal having obtained Exceptional Case Funding for the Appellant.
In 2023, Kate became one of youngest solicitors to be appointed to the bench as a Deputy District Judge.
Away from work, Kate sings in a local choir and enjoys travel, learning more about the cultures, food and wine on offer along the way!
