Prior to taking up a career in the Law Kevin worked in the nursing profession for 15 years and qualified as a Registered Nurse for people with a Learning Disability with a special interest in clients who also suffered from Mental Illness.
Developing a keen interest in promoting his patients’ rights Kevin studied for a Law Degree in his spare time and qualified from John Moores University, |
Liverpool, in 1997. He subsequently took up full time work with Hogans Solicitors completing his Training Contract and his LPC on a part time basis and qualified as a solicitor in June 2000. On the day of qualification Kevin was made a Partner in the firm of Hogans Solicitors.
Kevin specialises in Mental Health Law and has been involved in a number of reported cases, in particular the landmark cases of ex-parte Stennett which dealt with Local Authority’s overcharging for Section 117 Aftercare services and R (on the application of Munjaz) which dealt with the issue of patients placed in seclusion.
Kevin is Head of the Mental Health Department and in addition to acting for client’s detained under the provisions of the Mental Health Act 1983 he has developed an extensive practice acting for vulnerable adults. He is frequently instructed by the Official Solicitor in best interest cases in the Court of Protection and has been involved in a number of cases which have developed the law in the area of protection of vulnerable adults. He also acts as Deputy for Property and Affairs for a large number of clients.
In his spare time Kevin is a keen amateur dramatist and can frequently be found treading the boards at Wigan Little Theatre.
Kevin completed his Masters Degree in Mental Health Law at the University of Northumbria in 2007.
